A migrant worker died after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a water tank near Gummidipoondi, and four others were hospitalised with breathing difficulties. At a private ethanol manufacturing unit located in the SIPCOT Industrial Estate at Thervoy Kandigai near Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district, five workers were engaged in cleaning a water tank on Monday (April 27, 2026) evening. During the work, toxic gas reportedly leaked unexpectedly, causing all five workers to suffer breathlessness.
