The predominantly agrarian Kallakurichi (SC) Assembly constituency encompassing panchayat unions of Kallakurichi and Thiyagadurgam make up one of the largest areas dominated by low-income groups, farm labourers and Dalits. These areas have remained so for decades, now with no improvement in the socio-economic condition of its residents. After the delimitation exercise in 2008, the constituency became a Reserved segment and consistently returned candidates of the AIADMK in the 2011, 2016 and 2021 elections. This time the constituency is headed for a strong fight between the AIADMK and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
