N. Ramesh, esophagogastric cancer surgeon at the GEM Hospital in Coimbatore, has won the ‘Best Video’ award at the Indian edition of the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE) conference held in Hyderabad A press release from the hospital said that the award recognised a video on laparoscopic and robotic esophagectomy using indocyanine green fluorescence to map cancer spread and guide surgery. The minimally-invasive esophagectomy technique was introduced by laparoscopic surgeon and founder of GEM hospitals C. Palanivelu 25 years ago, and is now widely adopted.
