Chennai under tight security as 23,000 police, CAPF deployed for Assembly polls

To maintain law and order during the Assembly elections and prevent election-related offences, the Greater Chennai City Police have deployed 23,000 personnel and 31 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) across all polling stations, while also strengthening security at locations identified as vulnerable and sensitive.

There are 24 Assembly constituencies within the Greater Chennai City Police (GCP) limits, of which 15 fall entirely within the jurisdiction and nine are partly covered.
