When Payas, the seventh seed, pocketed the first two games, a potential triple crown for the day — and revenge for his loss to Manush in last year’s National Championship final in Surat — appeared firmly on the cards. However, the bespectacled, left-handed Manush raised his game when it mattered most. Mixing up his serves smartly and finding the corners with clinical precision, he wrested back control of a pulsating contest before converting his third match point. Despite the singles defeat, Payas capped a highly productive day by partnering Ankur Bhattacharjee to lift the men’s doubles title and teaming up with Syndrela Das to win the mixed doubles crown. The women’s singles final, in contrast, proved to be a largely one-sided affair. Ryu Hanna continued her dominant run through the tournament, never allowing Kutumbale to settle into a rhythm and closing out the match decisively to seal the title. The results: Women: Final: Ryu Hanna b Anusha Kutumbale 11-6, 11-6, 11-5. Semifinals: Ryu bt Syndrela Das 11-4, 8-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-9; Anusha Kutumbale bt Sutirtha Mukherjee 12-10, 11-5, 16-14.
