Raising concerns over rise in the number of fatal road accidents, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar underscored the urgent need for stricter adherence to traffic rules and greater public participation in road safety efforts.

Mr. Prabhakar quoted media reports on the road accidents, at the ‘Arrive Alive’ programme in Mahabubnagar district on Saturday (April 18, 2026), organised as part of the 99-day Praja Palana – Pragatiki Pranalika event, and pointed out that such accidents resulted in significant loss of life, leaving families, especially those dependent sole breadwinners in severe distress. He emphasised that government initiatives would not succeed without active involvement from the public.
