Summer holidays, weekend trigger heavy tourist rush in Velankanni

Thousands of pilgrims and tourists thronged Velankanni in Nagapattinam district over the weekend, coinciding with the summer holidays, braving intense heat to offer prayers at the renowned Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health.

Velankanni, home to the internationally known shrine, draws a large number of devotees. With the conclusion of the Assembly elections on April 23 and a series of consecutive holidays, the footfall surged significantly on Saturday.
