Thailand’s Ekpharit Wu and Jeongwoo Ham of South Korea were the early pacesetters, while Gaganjeet Bhullar was the best-performing Indian in the Singapore Open first round at the Sentosa Golf Club here on Thursday.

Wu and Ham earned a two-stroke lead with impressive performances of seven-under-64. Wu, starting from tee 10, produced five birdies on his front nine to be quick off the blocks, with Ham matching him despite a bogey on hole 10. “Having my wife (his caddie) by my side makes me more confident. It has been a rewarding partnership,” said Wu.

Bhullar, part of the chasing pack, lied tied-sixth after carding four-under-67 in a bogey-free effort. The 37-year-old, who began from tee 10, rode on three birdies on his back nine — holes one, four and seven — to be among a seven-member club at T-6.
