The police heightened security across Coimbatore as arrangements were made for the celebration of the Republic Day at the VOC Grounds on Monday (January 26, 2026). Coimbatore City Police Commissioner N. Kannan said the city has been kept on high alert in view of the Republic Day. The police tightened vigil across the city from Saturday night (January 25, 2026) and conducted anti-sabotage checks. Vehicles were checked at multiple locations to rule out suspicious activities. “Vital installations and the venue of the celebrations are guarded by the police. A total of 2,500 police personnel are engaged in security measures,” he said. Collector to unfurl tricolour flag District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar will unfurl the national flag at VOC Grounds in the city at 8.05 a.m. and accept the guard of honour. He will present certificates of appreciation to government officials and staff from various departments for their exemplary work. Police personnel will also be awarded medals for meritorious service. Senior officials from government departments will participate in the event, which will feature cultural programmes by students from different schools, said a statement issued by District Revenue Officer P. Narayanan.
