Narayanan, 90-year-old veteran journalist and writer from Idukki, has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, recognising his contributions to the field of literature and education. Mr. Narayanan is the co-founder and chief editor of the Janmabhoomi daily. A prominent Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader in the State, he previously served as the State organisational general secretary and was a member of the national executive committee of the Bhartiya Jana Sangh. His literary contributions include nearly 10 original books and the translation of over 100 works. Responding to the announcement, Mr. Narayanan said Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan called him unexpectedly at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday to inform him of the government’s decision. “I accept this honour with the utmost respect for the country. My life has been fully dedicated to the welfare of the nation, and this recognition makes my journey even more meaningful,” said Mr. Narayanan. Popularly known as “Narayanji,” he was born on May 28, 1936, in Manakkad village, Thodupuzha. As a journalist, he authored a column in Janmabhoomi from 1999 to 2025, contributing over 1,200 pieces during that period.
