Kannur district president of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) M.C. Athul, who is facing sexual assault and financial cheating cases based on a woman’s complaint, has claimed that he has been subjected to threats and harassment following his black flag protest against Health Minister Veena George. The Kannur Vanitha police registered the case based on a complaint submitted to the District Police Chief (Kannur city). The complainant, a Kannur native, alleged that Athul sexually assaulted her during a trip and borrowed ₹1.6 lakh on the pretext of marriage, which he allegedly failed to return. In a Facebook post, he termed the case a “targeted hunt” linked to the protest. He also said incidents from a period of friendship were being “misinterpreted” and added that, as the matter is before a court, he would refrain from discussing further details in public. .
