Madurai Kamaraj University is not able to pay salary for months. Teaching and non-teaching staff are protesting every day seeking their salary, says T. Sathya Devi, NTK candidate for Thirupparankundram Assembly constituency. Electioneering in Thirupparankundram Assembly seat was happening on non-issues like lighting of Sri Subramaniyaswamy Temple Karthigai deepam, while one of the oldest universities in the country, Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), was making an existential struggle, said NTK candidate T. Sathya Devi. An alumna of the MKU, which falls within Thirupparankundram Assembly constituency, Ms. Sathya Devi charged that both the AIADMK and the DMK, which had won from this seat for decades, were not touching this very important topic in this election. The financial condition of university that was founded in 1965 was in the doldrums.
