P. Raveendran, Vice-Chancellor, University of Calicut, has issued an order allowing students pursuing four-year undergraduate programmes (FYUGP) to complete their internship in their respective colleges this year. According to existing regulations, students pursuing BBA and BCA courses are required to complete 120 hours of internship carrying four credits. Those in other programmes must complete 60 hours of internship carrying two credits. Students are required to complete their internships during the April–May vacation period before entering the fifth semester. As per the rules, students are allowed to do internships only in companies that are at least 10 years old or in colleges other than their own. However, there have been widespread complaints about students not getting enough opportunities to complete the required 60 hours in companies and industrial units. There were also allegations of financial exploitation. Some students also reported difficulties in travelling to distant places in the scorching summer and highlighted the expenses they incurred for the purpose.
