Orathanadu, a serene rural Assembly Segment, has become the cynosure of all eyes in this election in Thanjavur district as two candidates who were groomed in the AIADMK are crossing swords on behalf of the two main Dravidian parties. While the prominent one – R.Vaithilingam, a four-time MLA elected in ‘two-leaves’ symbol of the AIADMK, rossed-over to DMK recently, his opponent, M. Sekar, who switched his allegiance to Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam earlier, has now returned to the AIADMK. Interestingly, the DMK’s ‘rising sun’ symbol remained the first choice of voters in 7 out of the 13 elections held since 1967, when DMK captured power in the State for the first time.
