Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Palakkad zonal general secretary K.K. Surendran described the State Budget as the CPI(M)’s election manifesto presented in the Assembly. “The CPI(M), which had failed to implement the promises it made in the last 10 years, is trying to hoodwink people by declaring new dream projects,” he said. The BJP leader described the Budget as a set of false and unimplementable promises of a caretaker government that lost the people’s mandate in the recent local body elections. The failure to increase the welfare pension by even a single rupee is a sign of the collapse of the State’s economy. “The anganwadi and ASHA workers were given a raise of just ₹31 a day, and helpers ₹15.5. By giving a rise of ₹25 to school cooking workers, what does the government mean?” asked Mr. Surendran. He criticised Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal for using remarks against the Central government, and alleged him of double standards. “It is because of the Centre’s help that the State’s treasury is working. Nothing worthwhile was declared for industry, agriculture, education, and labour sectors,” he said.
