The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Sessions Court-1, Mangaluru, on Monday sentenced Mahammed Niyaz to seven years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹25,000. The court found him guilty of attempting to murder Assistant Sub-Inspector Aithappa. The court further sentenced Niyaz to three years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹15,000 for the offence punishable under Section 333, read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code. He was also sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and slapped with a fine of ₹10,000 for the offence under Section 332, read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code. All the sentences will run concurrently.
