Amidst concerns over the domestic availability of fertilisers and urea due to the conflict in West Asia, industry players have argued that coal gasification is one avenue through which domestic supplies could have been secured. According to them, very few coal gasification projects have so far scaled to an advanced stage. The Ministry of Coal, however, has told The Hindu that the government is confident that the target of 100 million tonnes of gasification by 2030 will be met as per schedule.
