The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, along with the Association of Indian Universities and Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri, will conduct the All India Inter-University Athletics Championship at the Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri from January 12 to January 16.

Talking to reporters in Mangaluru here on Sunday, chairman of the foundation M. Mohan Alva said 4,288 athletes from 312 universities would take part in the event. Mr. Alva said it was the 6th time the foundation was hosting a national athletics event in Moodbidri.

The events would be held on their well-furnished synthetic track. The track will be floodlit, and the latest photo-finish system would be used for the championship. The athletes’ perfomance would be considered for the Khelo India event and for the International Inter-University Championship.

The events will start at 6 a.m. on Monday, while the official inauguration function will be held in the evening. There will be a grand procession of the athletes at 4.30 p.m.

Mr. Alva said the foundation would award ₹20 lakh as prize money to the athletes. The gold medal winner would get ₹15,000, while the silver medal and bronze medal winners would receive ₹10,000 and ₹5,000, respectively.

Those who meet the record would get ₹25,000. The university that wins the overall championship trophy will get ₹50,000, while the runner-up and third-place university teams will get ₹30,000 and ₹20,000 respectively.
