Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will participate in the ‘Arrive Alive’ road safety programme at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium in Yousufguda on Monday (January 12), marking the formal launch of a state-wide campaign aimed at reducing road accidents in Telangana.

Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy said that the road safety campaign, undertaken by the Telangana police, would be held across the State for 10 days from January 13 to 24, excluding festival holidays. The campaign seeks to significantly cut down road accidents and fatalities through large-scale public participation and sustained awareness efforts.

The DGP said that the core objective of the programme was to instil a strong sense of road safety among citizens and bring about behavioural change in the way people use roads. It also aims to institutionalise defensive driving practices and strengthen road safety systems from village level till districts, with the long-term goal of making Telangana a model State in road safety in the country.

Dangerous violations

According to the DGP, the campaign will focus on curbing dangerous practices such as riding without helmets, particularly by pillion riders, failure to wear seat belts, using mobile phones while driving, drunk driving, wrong-side driving, jumping traffic signals, crossing stop lines, overloading of autos on highways, violations related to meters and uniforms, use of high-beam lights, and overtaking from the left.

During the 10-day campaign, special initiatives will focus on defensive driving, student and youth safety, rural road safety, women and family safety, zero tolerance towards drunk driving, and engagement with celebrities, media, and corporate entities.
