Government hospitals expand joint replacement care reducing referrals to private hospitals

Government hospitals in Karnataka are emerging as centres for advanced orthopaedic procedures such as Total Knee Replacement (TKR) and Total Hip Replacement (THR), following a series of reforms aimed at strengthening infrastructure, capacity and access, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said on Thursday.

Addressing presspersons, he said the State has witnessed a clear shift towards public hospitals performing these surgeries, reducing dependence on private facilities and ensuring affordable care closer to patients’ homes.
