Guntur Municipal Corporation undertakes desilting of drains across the city ahead of the monsoon | Photo Credit: T. VIJAY KUMAR The Guntur Municipal Corporation(GMC) has intensified pre-monsoon preparedness by accelerating desilting works across the city to prevent drainage issues. Municipal Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok has directed engineering officials to ensure that all drains are cleared to their full depth while maintaining strict quality standards. With the city’s drainage network extending over about 3,130 km, authorities have prioritised 180 km of major and medium drains identified as vulnerable. As many as 61 works have been taken up at an estimated cost of ₹3.68 crore. Minor drains are being cleaned regularly by sanitation workers under the supervision of public health officials.
