A total of 108 wards in Ernakulam are experiencing summer water scarcity, according to a recent study.

A survey jointly conducted in 2024 by the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), the Kerala Forest Research Institute, and the Institute of Climate Change Studies revealed that residents in Mulanthuruthy, Muvattupuzha, Pampakuda, Koothattukulam, and Piravom are the most affected by water stress during the summer. The wards mostly face insufficient water availability and limited accessibility.

Efforts by local bodies to mitigate water stress through tanker supply, rooftop harvesting, and groundwater recharge were found to be insufficient, according to the report. The survey was conducted under the project titled ‘Identification of water stress hotspots in Kerala’.
