RAJU Tension prevailed outside the GITAM Deemed to Be University as the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) activists and members gathered on Thursday. The members held a protest and alleged that the police had prevented them from inspecting the 54 acres government site. The protest was led by YSRCP MLC Botcha Satyanarayana, Uttarandhra regional coordinator Kurasala Kannababu, Visakhapatnam district YSRCP president, KK Raju, and a few others. Mr Botcha Satyanaraya criticised the police and said that they were acting as protectors of land grabbers by preventing the YSRCP from inspecting the land. He questioned the silence of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and the BJP on the issue. He asserted that the YSRCP would intensify its agitation and raise the issue in Parliament until the decision was withdrawn. He also announced a protest programme at the Gandhi statue near the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), involving public organisations, intellectuals and activists. Former Minister, Kurasala Kannababu stated that GITAM University, which already collects hefty fees from students, is now being favoured with 54 acres of government land worth ₹5,000 crore. Mr. K.K. Raju said the there was strong opposition from the public in Visakhapatnam to the proposed land transfer, and added that the YSRCP corporators would stage protests during the GVMC Council meeting. He added that the party would continue its agitation until the alleged land grab was stopped.
