BJP president Nitin Nabin campaigning for Nainar Nagenthran in Sattur recently. The entry of Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran — who has won thrice from the Tirunelveli Assembly constituency — has given star constituency status to Sattur, with BJP leaders, including its national president Nitin Nabin, landing here to campaign for him. Mr. Nagenthran claims he had to shift out of Tirunelveli based on a request from the AIADMK. But not many are willing to buy his argument, as the move comes in the wake of his defeat in the Tirunelveli parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Since 1989, the Tirunelveli constituency has chosen the AIADMK and the DMK alternatively, and Mr. Nagenthran is the sitting MLA on a BJP ticket.
