The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has apparently shirked its responsibility to fulfill the directive of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) as regards determining the contamination of the abandoned quarries in Mudalipalayam and Nallur villages, where the Tiruppur City Municipal Corporation has been dumping untreated solid wastes for years. The CPCB, which had categorised the abandoned quarries in Mudalipalayam-Nallur villages as ‘Suspected Contaminated Site’, has indicated in its flow chart on ‘Contaminated Site Declaration Process’, that a site assessment has to be carried out by the TNPCB/investigating organisation under the Environment Protection (Management of Contaminated Sites) Rules, 2025.
