The toilet for persons with disabilities at Nungambakkam railway station | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement The Southern Railway has proposed to install an elevator at the Nungambakkam railway station on the Loyola College gate side as part of the Divyangjan project, which has been initiated by the Railway Board to improve access to facilities for persons with disabilities. A senior official from the Chennai division of the Southern Railway said that with an elevator already functioning on the Sourashtra Nagar side, located on the western side of the railway station, it has been proposed to install another elevator on the eastern side to help hundreds of commuters, including senior citizens, have easy and faster access from the Loyola College gate side. Soon, the work to install the lift would begin, the official added.
