Several rural habitations in the district have been facing a severe drinking water shortage in the wake of the prevailing extreme hot weather. According to sources, nearly one-third of the towns and rural habitations in the district get drinking water supply from the Kollidam. The residents of several villages in Ariyalur, Thirumanur, Sendurai, T. Palur, Jayankondam, and Andimadam panchayat unions depend upon the localised drinking water scheme. The respective panchayats supply water to the residents by drawing water from borewells. Some villages have established Reverse Osmosis plants and supply drinking water to the residents.
