Puthukudiyiruppu villagers near Karaikudi hoist black flag to announce their election boycott over burial ground issue. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement In a protest against the failure to retrieve their burial ground, villagers of Puthukudiyiruppu near Karaikudi boycotted polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by hoisting black flags atop their houses. The village situated within the Iluppakudi Panchayat near Karaikudi in Sivagangai district, has more than 100 Scheduled Caste families. They have been complaining that the land designated as the village burial ground was wrongfully issued as a patta land to a private individual.
