Driven by a gruelling summer where temperatures have surged nearly 40°C, the Punalur municipality has conceived ‘Care,’ an ambitious, multi-pronged initiative designed to tackle critical challenges like acute water scarcity and rising heat. Recognising that carbon emissions and greenhouse gases are the primary drivers of global warming, the municipality has developed a scientific roadmap to transform Punalur, one of Kerala’s hottest locations, into a climate-resilient zone within a few years. The project, which integrates a carbon-neutral protocol and a comprehensive water budget, will be launched following the completion of its Detailed Project Report (DPR) this month.
