Projects worth ₹728 crore were approved for trans Yamuna region in the first meeting of the reconstituted Trans Yamuna Area Development Board (TYADB), which was attended by the Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, on Thursday (January 29, 2026).

The CM said that there would be no shortage of budgetary support for the development of the region and directed the Board members to prioritise projects based on actual needs

The meeting, held at the Delhi Secretariat, was attended by Law Minister Kapil Mishra, Chairman of the TYADB and BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely, and other Board members.

Mr. Lovely said that the initial focus of the Board is to improve the condition of roads and drains. “Currently, the condition of roads in trans Yamuna region is very bad, and in the first meeting, the Board approved road construction works in 16 Assembly Constituencies. Funds have also been approved for constituencies with AAP MLAs, and the Board has shown no discrimination,” he said.

Mr. Lovely said that other than roads, a major share of the funds has been allocated for drainage. Once the basic issues are sorted, the Board plans to do other developmental works in the region, he added.

The TYADB, a non-statutory advisory board, was constituted in 1994 for advising the government on issues related to infrastructure development and securing the planned growth of the Trans Yamuna Area in order bridge the gap in development between trans Yamuna and other areas of Delhi. The Board approves and recommends various infrastructure development works through various agencies such as the Delhi Jal Board, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Public Works Department etc.

The CM said that development of the trans Yamuna region is among the Delhi government’s highest priorities, and the objective is to develop the region to such an extent that people choose to come and live here by choice.

She emphasised that balance in development works is essential and that, alongside beautification, priority must be given to citizens’ basic needs such as roads, drainage systems, prevention of waterlogging, and safe mobility. The Chief Minister expressed concern that during the previous government’s tenure, the Board had been rendered completely inactive, resulting in a near-total halt in development in the Trans-Yamuna region, causing severe inconvenience to residents.

Keeping the upcoming monsoon in mind, the CM also instructed officials to ensure the speedy resolution of issues related to damaged roads, drainage, and waterlogging. She noted that roads used daily by thousands of commuters require immediate improvement to prevent inconvenience and accidents, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement.

“For a long time, the Trans-Yamuna region was deprived of development despite its growing population and increasing needs. Concrete efforts are now being made to correct this imbalance,” the CMO said in a statement.
