The Assembly polls passed off without any untoward incidents in the eight Assembly segments in Tiruppur district, on Thursday, clocking the highest ever turnout, so far, of 88.56%. The polling process was brisk till noon and slowed down during the subsequent hours of intense heat, and picked up again to a small extent from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Voters across age groups queued up at the booths in the morning hours till 10 a.m. At the end of the polling process at 6 p.m., 88.28% voters had exercised their franchise.
