Only 50% SSLC students clear first preparatory examination in Dakshina Kannada

With only 50% of SSLC students clearing the first preparatory examination in Dakshina Kannada, teachers are hopeful that more students will clear the second preparatory examination which started on Tuesday and end on Monday.

The first preparatory examination was held between January 5 and January 10. The third preparatory examination will be conducted between February 23 and February 28, while the final SSLC-1 examination will be held from March 18 to April 2.

Since the start of the 2025-26 academic year, the Education Department has been working with a motive to ensure that no Class 10 student fails. As part of it, department held ‘Mission 45’ programme across the State to ensure that a student gets a minimum of 45 marks in all six subjects. As part of it, chapter-wise question bank was released, and blue print of the question paper was also given. Three model questions papers and answer sheets of students who scored centum marks in 2025 SSLC examination have been posted in the SSLC students corner of the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board’s portal (kseab.karnataka.gov.in/KOSMIG/).

On their part, the subject teachers of Dakshina Kannada have prepared ‘Geluvina Hejje’ workbook, which contains essential questions that slow learners need to work on to get passing marks of 33 in the first language and 26 in the remaining five subjects. Phone-in programmes involving subject experts were aired on Akashavani in November. Exam preparation training programme for teachers and students from Muslim institutions were also held in November and December.

An analysis of the theory marks of the first preparatory examination has revealed that on an average, 80% of students have passed in the three language subjects, while around 70% have passed in Science, Mathematics and Social Science subjects. Among those who failed to secure passing marks include students from residential schools run by Social Welfare and Minority Welfare department.

“Those who have scored less than 15 marks are being made to work on ‘Geluvina Hejje’ workbook,” an official overlooking the preparation of students told The Hindu. Other students are being made to solve questions in the question bank and solve the three model question papers. “The students have been put through exam preparatory mode and there will be marked improvement in the remaining two preparatory examinations,” the official said.
