A 25-year-old nurse from Vikarabad district was arrested for allegedly murdering her parents by administering a high dose of anaesthesia after they opposed her inter-caste relationship.

The accused, 25-year-old Nakkali Surekha, is the youngest daughter of 58-year-old Nakkali Dasaratham, and 54-year-old Nakkali Lakshmi, who were found unconscious inside their house at Yacharam village on January 26, and later declared dead. The family initially suspected suicide, citing financial stress.

Vikarabad Deputy Superintendent of Police Srinivas Reddy said that Surekha, who works at a private hospital in Sangareddy, developed a relationship with a young man during the course of her employment. Her parents opposed the relationship and began exploring alliances for her marriage elsewhere.

DSP Srinivas Reddy said the accused planned the murders by injecting her parents with a high dose of anaesthetic under the pretext of giving them medicine for health complaints. “After they lost consciousness and died, she allegedly placed their bodies side by side inside the house to make it appear as a case of suicide,” said the officer.

She later informed her brother, Nakkali Ashok, that their parents had suddenly collapsed, and subsequently approached the police, prompting an inquiry.

During the investigation, inconsistencies in her statements and the recovery of injection vials from the house raised suspicion. Further questioning and forensic evidence confirmed that the couple had died due to drug overdose administered through injections. Vikarabad police arrested Surekha on January 28 and produced her before a court for further proceedings.
