Newly appointed District Police Chief (Kochi City) Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar has vowed to rein in goon gangs and bust drug networks in the city. The officer spoke about his priorities while interacting with the media after assuming office on Wednesday (January 21, 2026). He also said that traffic safety in the city would be strengthened. He was welcomed to his office by Deputy Commissioners Juvvanapudi Mahesh, Aswathy Jiji, and Vinod Pillai, and Assistant Commissioner (Special Branch) T.R. Jayakumar. Mr. Kumar, who belongs to the 2005 IPS batch of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, was Inspector General, Traffic and Road Safety Management, before being transferred to Kochi.
