The Kerala High Court has sought a report from the State government on a plea challenging the “mandatory” Medisep medical insurance for government employees and teachers. The Kerala Pradesh School Teachers’ Association had in its plea contended that the scheme had not been successful, and that it must be made optional. Many hospitals are not part of the scheme, while many diseases are not covered under it. The association further sought a comprehensive medical insurance coverage scheme. The court asked the government whether the scheme could be further improved. The matter has been posted for hearing after a fortnight.
