Arvind at an awareness programme on road safety held in Madurai on Friday. | Photo Credit: MOORTHY G Madurai City Traffic Police displayed two mangled cars as a measure to create awareness among drivers the need to desist from over-speeding and the significance of wearing seat belts. Collector K. J. Praveen Kumar, Commissioner of Police J. Loganathan and Superintendent of Police B. K. Arvind had a look at the cars at MGR Bus Stand at Mattuthavani. The concept is to display these vehicles on accident prone roads just to remind the people about the gory face of accidents, the officials said. On seeing the mangled cars, the drivers will slow down and avoid over-speeding. Besides, they would also advice the passengers to wear seat belts. The traffic police have planned to display the cars on Madurai-Tiruchi highway behind High Court Bench and on Dindigul By-Pass Road. The officials also pasted stickers to create awareness on wearing seat belts and helmets. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Vanitha, and officials of Transport Department were present.
