A 41-year-old man, who was earlier arrested by the Balanagar police, was convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years in connection with an attempted sexual assault on a minor girl. The court slapped a fine of ₹10,000 on the accused and awarded ₹3 lakh as compensation to the victim. The accused, Korra Shivashankar alias Raju, a labourer and resident of Yousufguda, originally from Ananthapuram in Andhra Pradesh, was found guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
