In a striking reflection of gender imbalance in electoral politics, not a single woman candidate is contesting from the Srirangam and Tiruchi East Assembly constituencies in the upcoming elections in Tiruchi district. This despite women voters outnumbering men in the district. With over 11 lakh women voters compared to around 10.40 lakh men, lack of representation for women highlights a persistent gap between electoral participation and political empowerment.
