In the backdrop of a sharp fall in tobacco prices, the Tobacco Board has significantly reduced Karnataka’s crop size for 2026–27 to 56 million kg, down from the 90 million kg fixed earlier this year.

Sources in the Regional office of Tobacco Board in Mysuru said a meeting of the Board held in Guntur on April 20 revised the crop size to 56 million kg in view of the geopolitical reasons, as well as the market conditions driven by a high yield in major tobacco-producing countries like Zimbabwe, Brazil and Tanzania.
