Jewellers in Coimbatore city saw poor sales for Akshaya Tritiya on Monday. | Photo Credit: Siva Saravanan S. Sale of gold and silver jewellery and coins on Sunday and Monday for Akshaya Tritiya was average in Coimbatore city, according to the jewellers. “It was like a Muhurtham day, not like Akshaya Tritiya. However, the footfalls were not as low as we expected. Most of the purchases were two or three gm jewellery or coins. This is mainly because of the restrictions for carrying cash because of the Assembly elections. Probably, it was just about 40% of last year’s sales,” said B. Sabarinath, president of the Coimbatore Jewellers Association.
