During election canvassing, candidates typically try to have conversations with people, giving public speeches, and holding rallies. Today’s candidates are trying new, innovative, and unconventional approach to campaigning. The fivve-State Assembly elections are bringing out different ways of how the candidates are forming a connection with the voters. In different regions, the campaign strategies by the candidates have become almost a performance. For instance, a candidate in Bengal went door-to-door to carrying a fully grown cutla fish and saying, “You give me vote, and I’ll give you fish”. Another candidate in Kerala was seen selling catfish in a local market. While other candidates have taken to frying fritters and selling them to serving people food in local restaurants. In other regions, we can see people campaigning on bicycles and turning into barbers, cooks, and even washing utensils in the electors’ houses. The way of asking for votes has certainly evolved from giving speeches to doing the most unconventional thing out there.
