Normal life in Idukki was disrupted on Tuesday by a dawn-to-dusk hartal called by various Dalit organisations. Supporters of the hartal forcibly shut shops and blocked vehicles in the district’s major centres, including Thodupuzha, Kattappana, and Kumily. In Thodupuzha, a hartal supporter arrived on a two-wheeler and blocked traffic. A local youth questioned his actions, leading to a heated argument that lasted for some time. While most private buses and taxis stayed off the roads, a few continued to ply in Munnar, Kumily, and Thodupuzha. Meanwhile, the KSRTC conducted routine services in major towns.
