Election campaigning for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in Coimbatore city has led to an increase in street litter, prompting the civic body to undertake additional cleaning operations in areas where campaign events have been held. Conservancy workers said neighbourhoods with political party offices and locations where meetings are conducted are witnessing a higher volume of waste, with some of it being dumped into open stormwater drains. Pamphlets distributed during door-to-door canvassing are often discarded on the streets shortly after being handed out, they said.
