Ragu Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday (April 13, 2026) said the 33% reservation for women in Parliament and the Assemblies would be implemented by 2029. During a conversation with journalists of The Hindu, he described as a “silly concern” the view that the proposed exercise would be disadvantageous to the southern States. “There is a proportional increase across the country. Everybody is back to where they were,” he said, accusing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and others of promoting a false narrative on the issue.
