The ‘Coffee with corporate’ programme organised as part of the ongoing Flamingo Festival brought to the fore the need for the corporate world to take biodiversity conservation as its core responsibility. As part of the series of programmes organised by Sri City, in association with Krea University and Andhra Pradesh Forest Department, with enhanced focus on biodiversity, sustainability and eco-tourism, the second day on Sunday marked an interactive dialogue with the chief executive officers (CEOs) and senior executives from the industries operating in Sri City. Conservator of Forest (Tirupati Wildlife Management Circle) C. Selvam, Sri City managing director Ravindra Sannareddy, Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) deputy director Sathiya Selvam and Chilika Development Authority former head Ajit Kumar Pattnaik discussed the need for a bigger role by the industry in environmental stewardship, biodiversity conservation and protection of Pulicat lake, which is in the vicinity of Sri City. While commending Sri City for keeping the region green through proactive and innovative conservation measures, Mr. Selvam sought consistent support from the industry in striking meaningful balance between ambitious business objectives and long-term environmental responsibility. Mr. Sannareddy also reiterated Sri City’s dedication to exhibit a sense of ecological responsibility by nurturing only non-polluting industries. “The Flamingo Festival serves as a powerful reminder of the collective and continuous efforts required to safeguard national treasures such as the Pulicat,” he said. The event included screening of short films on nature conservation, followed by discussions emphasising industry-community collaboration for protecting migratory bird habitats, especially the flamingos.
