A Class XI student died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nagapattinam on Wednesday, triggering protests by his parents and relatives who alleged medical negligence and staged a road blockade demanding action. The deceased, Santhosh ,16, son of Veeramani of Kurichi village near Velankanni, was a student of the a Higher Secondary School in Nagapattinam Town. He was admitted to a private hospital in the town on Wednesday following complaints of severe abdominal pain. However, he died during treatment, hospital sources said. The student’s parents and relatives refused to receive the body and staged a road blockade, alleging that improper treatment had led to the boy’s death. Following information, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramachandramoorthy and Inspector Vembarasi led a police team to the spot and held talks with the agitating relatives. After prolonged negotiations, the protesters were pacified. Based on a complaint lodged by Veeramani, the police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry. The body was subsequently sent to the Orathur Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
