To tackle underage driving, a growing problem in the city, parents of underage boys who were involved in road accidents are being arrested and remanded. The Greater Chennai City Police (GCTP) has also decided to step up surveillance as the summer holidays, a period when minors are more likely to take vehicles on to the city roads, have begun. In an incident on March 7, a minor riding a motorcycle on Velachery 100 Feet Road near Murugan Kalyana Mandapam hit a 58-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road. The victim sustained grievous injuries and later died at the hospital. The rider also suffered serious injuries.
