Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Huzurabad Padi Kaushik Reddy on Friday called on Speaker of the Legislative Assembly G. Prasad Kumar and submitted a letter requesting the latter to take disciplinary action against three police officers of Karimnagar district for violation of his privileges as a legislator at Veenavanka on Thursday.

After submitting the letter to the Speaker, Mr. Reddy urged the former to treat it as the notice for initiation of privilege motion against Commissioner of Police of Karimnagar Gaush Alam, ACP Huzurabad Madhavi and Inspector of Jammikunta Rural Laxmi Narayana for their acts of “breach of privilege and contempt of the House”.

He explained that he visited Sammakka-Saralamma temple in his native village that also falls in his Assembly constituency on January 29 to offer prayers. The police officials functioning under the control of CP Karimnagar stopped and restrained him along with his wife and daughter while they were proceeding from his camp office, without any lawful orders or justification, the BRS MLA explained.

The police officials acted in a highly objectionable, arbitrary and unbecoming way, and he was also obstructed unwarrantedly in a humiliating manner and was forcibly removed from the temple, preventing him from offering prayers, Mr. Reddy stated.

It amounted to a clear breach of the privileges conferred upon an MLA and contempt of the House, he said and requested the Speaker to initiate the proceedings of privilege motion against the three officers.
