: A 17-year-old boy was apprehended for assaulting a woman traffic constable after being stopped for a traffic violation at Vyasarpadi Market Junction on Thursday.

Police sources said Pooma Sri, 28, a Grade II constable in the Vyasarpadi Traffic Enforcement Wing, was on duty at 5 p.m. on Thursday, when she intercepted his scooter for wrong-side driving. Reportedly, the rider was inebriated.

Subsequently, an argument broke out between the two, during which the boy verbally abused the constable and assaulted her. He pushed her to the ground, injuring her hand. She received treatment at Government Stanley Hospital. The boy from Vyasarpadi was apprehended based on her complaint. He was apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which ordered his admission to Government Observation Home for Boys.
