The 893rd jayanthi of Basaveshwara was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm across Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana on Monday. The main official function, organised by the State government, was held at Ravindra Bharathi, where Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Transport Ponnam Prabhakar paid tributes to the 12th-century social reformer.

Addressing the gathering, he said Basaveshwara dedicated his life to building a casteless and classless society. He noted that Basava’s teachings, particularly the principle of ‘work is worship’, remain relevant in modern times, and urged people to follow his ideals.
